Where in Central Alberta is the Targeted Initiative for Older Workers Program offered, who do you contact and what does it offer? I just saw and article in the Edmonton Senior newspaper saying it was a joint program Fed/Prov. It gave the name of the ministers involved but not information on how to access it in Alberta. I emailed the paper but they didn't know and I email the Alberta MP Thomas Lukaszuk but haven't heard from his office yet. Can you provide the info?

Coming from a family of workaholics and many generation farmers, I took the approach that retirees are clever to keep going and the workplace is at a plus for allowing this to occur, I did that is, until I found myself in the following situation:

50+ year old dependent on just over minimum wage cheque to pay rent, bills, food without any source of additional income. Being forced to go for food assistance because of lack of working hours onto which coworkers are all pensioners, or widowers.

Reentering workforce and struggling to stay off of assistance so finding another job isn't going to be an easy thing.

My comment now to the snowbirds, and rich retirees - I'm not jealous that you have what you have worked hard to get, I applaud that you still want to keep on going - I am thinking that it is wrong to have pensioners take jobs from the middle age working force.

Who do they think is going to pay for the social programs like healthcare, etc. if they keep cutting off opportunities for the generation who will be retiring next? And what about their grandchildrens time? Can they honestly say they would think it would be right if the same would happen to them?

I do want to add that not every retiree takes the approach, some actually care about the next generation and steps aside a shift every now and then for someone else, but some think that just because they can spend time on holidays doing good elsewhere, they can overlook what they are doing to their own country.

My opinion stands - I applaud your energy and ambition to want to stay viable, but I think what could happen to middle class low wage workers in this country stinks!!!!!!!
