Curb Appeal: Prophets to Profits

Whether it is divine intervention or just plain old business smarts, Cheryl McMann will probably never know for certain why business is so good

Old Country Store

About two years ago, McMann opened up the Old Country Store, a home furnishings and gift shop, in a former Baptist church in Okotoks. Built in 1902 and simply named “Baptist Church,” the building became the Evangelical Free Church in the ’30s until it moved to its new location in 1997. Inside the three-storey building, the open space is jam-packed to its vaulted ceiling with high-end furniture and cute chachkas. Says McMann about the store’s success: “Certainly God is looking down on us. I think we always have some extra guidance.”
