GREYS® Paper Recycling Industries revolutionizes paper recycling in Edmonton (Advertorial)
Over the past few decades the world has become increasingly aware that the Earth’s resources are finite and in some cases, rapidly depleting
It takes 24 full grown trees to produce one ton of office paper, and each year thousands of tons of paper are produced in Alberta alone. By recycling used office paper, it’s possible to vastly reduce that environmental cost.
GREYS® Paper Recycling Industries Ltd. is a company pioneering the concept of Closed-Loop Recycling, which essentially means natural resources are used, then recycled, then used again with little or no loss of material volume.
GREYS® Recycling Ltd. has developed a unique system for recycling waste paper and old cotton clothes. This system has already undergone several years of research and trials overseas.
GREYS® collects paper from local offices, old cotton clothes, and white linens from hotels, and combines them to make 100% recycled paper products. The best part is – no harsh chemicals are used! The cotton fibers help to whiten the paper and strengthen its structural integrity.
After waste paper is processed into pulp, it becomes light grey in appearance which gives GREYS® its name! This process is similar to how things were done a thousand years ago – it’s entirely eco-friendly.
“GREYS® Paper Recycling Industries’ facility is the first in the world to make products using 100 per cent waste paper,” says CEO Rajan Ahluwalia, who has set up and headed similar recycling projects in India and Dubai.
Ahluwalia immigrated to Canada in 2006 with a vision of advancing this innovative technology in Alberta, fine-tuning the process and then offering the technology to the world through licensing opportunities.
“We are converting about 40 tonnes of paper a day, so in a year we take about 14,400 tonnes out of the waste stream,” says Ahluwalia. “Our process is all mechanical, no harsh chemicals. There’s no pollution, and no emissions.”
The plant is now fully operational and the recycled paper products are currently being sold in the Edmonton region only, although GREYS® has the capability to distribute throughout Canada.
GREYS® 68,000 sq. ft. plant consists of two highly energy-efficient Monolithic Domes. Built with R60 insulation, it uses solar sun pipes for most of its lighting and solar power.
“GREYS® supplies 100% post-consumer recycled stationary paper that has superior quality, adaptability and consistency, and is compatible with all office equipment.
The basic line of office paper features letter and legal size paper, plus #10 and 9×12 envelopes with 89 Brightness, in an Elegant Grey Shade.
“When you set up a contract with GREYS® for your office paper needs, you can expect to have your used paper picked up, your recycled paper delivered, and then the process continues over and over again,” raves Ahluwalia. “This is truly the essence of closed loop recycling!”
