Industry Report: Clean Technology
It’s not just idealistic startups that have gotten involved in clean technology. Increasingly, big names in the oil and gas sector are investing in green technologies to burnish their credentials as good corporate citizens, save money and reduce waste. Imperial Oil’s “cyclic solvent process,” for instance, is a $100-million technology the company hopes could reduce water usage and greenhouse gas emissions at its Cold Lake project. Cenovus is developing a $62-million steam generator it hopes will lower the cost of carbon capture. Many of these projects benefit from substantial public investment through Alberta Energy’s Innovative Energy Technologies Program and other sources.
