The Lubicon Nation is suing energy company Penn West.
A press release issued on Monday morning from the Lubicon Nation says the statement of claim filed with the courts on Friday is centred on the Canadian government not entering into a Treaty with the Lubicon prior to oil and gas development proceeding. As a result, the press release states, “the leases issued to Penn West by the province of Alberta are null and void.”
The Lubicon Nation argues it is entitled to an immediate injunction against Penn West’s work constructing a planned oil fracking site.
Last week, this blog reported that members of the Lubicon Nation – which is but one of two political entities now representing the Lubicon – set up a blockade of an access road to Penn West’s proposed fracking site. To this blog’s knowledge, that blockade continues.[contextly_auto_sidebar id=”p0KYFxmqXc4oOxDqXlm2SbCoMol3K6tN”]
