Advertorial – The next generation of accounting professionals

Jun 9, 2014

Rewarding your professional value

In a recent survey of more than 21,000 designated professional accountants in Canada, average salaries were highest in Alberta. According to the 2013 CPA Compensation Study, the average salary of a designated professional accountant in Alberta was $177,000.

The Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation offers the opportunity to apply your financial and business expertise to careers across Alberta, throughout Canada and around the world.

With your designation, you can work in industries such as oil and gas, real estate, financial services, arts and media, agriculture, education, private industry and government.

CPA – one designation in Canada

The CPA designation is the result of unification by Canada’s accounting bodies – the Chartered Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and Certified General Accountant designations. CPA brings together the best from each of the legacy bodies to offer Canada’s pre-eminent accounting designation and business credential. When unification is complete across Canada, the CPA will represent more than 185,000 accounting professionals.

The CPA is a powerful united voice committed to protecting and serving the public interest.

Helping employers

The CPA designation benefits employers as well. Gone is the confusion about which designated accountant is qualified for a certain position. Employers can be confident that CPAs earn the designation with one consistent education program and high ethical and practice standards. That means an equal playing field when considering qualifications and credentials.

Employers can help their staff achieve the CPA designation by supporting the CPA route.

Become a designated accountant

You need an undergraduate degree to enter the CPA Professional Program. If your degree isn’t in accounting or you received it outside of Canada, you may need prerequisites to qualify for entry. That’s where the CPA Prerequisite Education Program (PREP) comes in. PREP is flexible, part-time and geared to working professionals.

Registration closes July 25th for fall 2014 PREP courses. Create your profile at albertaaccountants.org or call 1.855.306.9390 to start your path to a professional accounting designation.

Every business needs people who know how to manage money. Chartered Professional Accountants bring their vision and strategy to ensure success today and into the future.
