Since 2006, the City of Leduc has grown by a massive 69 per cent. The city attributes this growth to its centralized location. Minutes from the Edmonton International Airport, Leduc is the natural corridor between northern Alberta and the rest of the world. In close proximity to Edmonton’s city centre, Leduc is a stopping-point for anyone commuting in or out of the city. Since 1984, it’s been part of the Leduc-Nisku Economic Development Association – a partnership between businesses and municipalities in the area. Barbara Engelbart McKenzie, executive director of the association, is quick to credit community members for the area’s success. “The City of Leduc and surrounding area have an energetic, entrepreneurial spirit which comes alive in a city where 99 per cent of the businesses have less than 100 employees,” she says. “As this region’s fastest-growing community, [Leduc] businesses have access to an ever-growing skilled workforce. It is a city that empowers residents through volunteerism and is host to over 150 events annually.” More than just an oil town, Leduc boasts a burgeoning agri-business sector and is a recognized leader in national sport tourism initiatives.
