Alberta’s Best Communities for Business: #4 Grande Prairie

Jun 6, 2016

18-bcbGrandePrairie-story

The area surrounding Grande Prairie is rich in natural resources, making the community the natural hub for industries ranging from oil and gas to agriculture and forestry. Easy access to natural resources has long resulted in a stable economy for the city. Its unemployment rate has actually decreased: it was 5.5 per cent in 2011 but 4.2 per cent in 2015. Evidence of Grande Prairie’s thriving economy can be found at the recently completed Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum, built near one of the world’s most dense dinosaur bone beds, drawing tourists and scholars from around the world.
