In January, Darren Campbell took over as editor of Alberta Oil magazine from Gord Jaremko who retired to pursue his interest in writing books. Mike Ganley has been named editor of Alberta Venture, effective May 9, 2011, replacing Paul Marck who recently moved to British Columbia.
Campbell comes to the Venture Publishing after spending nearly 14 years in the Northwest Territories as a journalist, including a stint as editor of the award-winning northern business magazines Far North Oil and Gas. “There is no better place to be following the oil and gas and energy sectors than Alberta. There is so much happening on those fronts in this province,” says Campbell. “I look forward to telling the stories that matter to Alberta Oil’s readers and to enhance the magazine’s stature as a must-read if you’re interested in the business of energy.”
Ganley has spent the last six years at Up Here Publishing in Yellowknife, most recently as editor of the Up Here Business. Prior to entering journalism, Ganley was a litigation lawyer for six years, practicing in Toronto and Halifax. “I like to think all that moving around has given me a broad perspective on Canada and its regions,” he says. “Now, for the first time, I get to immerse myself in the West. I look forward to bringing an Albertan perspective to the issues affecting the province.”
