Holger Peterson, Co-owner Stony Plain Records

The music business has never been an easy one. Music fans can be fickle and somehow there always seem to be more artists out there than ears to hear all of them. All the same, Holger Petersen doesn’t seem worried. His Edmonton-based roots music label, Stony Plain Records, has slowly been picking up steam and a dedicated fan base since he established it at his kitchen table in 1976. Today Stony Plain has more than 300 albums by the likes of Ian Tyson, Duke Robillard and Long John Baldry in its catalogue. The shaky, early days of the label have long since been ridden out, and there doesn’t seem to be any shortage of music piquing Petersen’s interest.
