TransAlta Corp. astonished everyone from governments to environmentalists, this past August, when it purchased emission credits compliant with the Kyoto environmental protocol. The Calgary-based energy producer is, according to the Pembina Institute, Canada’s second largest emitter of greenhouse gasses after Ontario Power Generation.
