These days, Ellen Christopherson is flying pretty high.

That seems fitting for this Grimshaw native who always had a passion for aviation. In 2014, the Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce presented her with the award for best new business. “It’s awesome to have a community that recognizes what you’re doing,” she says. While the head office of her company, Elevated Robotic Services, is now in St. Albert, it was local support that helped get it off ground.

Elevated Robotic uses aerial robotics to gather data in the most hard-to-reach locations. To provide clients in oil and gas, mining, power, and forestry with the information they need, the company uses drones of various shapes and sizes, armed with sensors. “It could be a camera, thermal, spectral or a gas sensor… whatever’s needed,” Christopherson says. “Then we use our software to transform data and we provide analytics in an accessible format.”

While Elevated Robotic is picking up contracts in eastern Canada, Christopherson is currently looking at opening a field office for the company in Grande Prairie. “I’m in Grande Prairie all the time,” she says. “After all, that’s where a lot of the work is happening.”
